Who We Are

Meet The Captain

At a young age, Captain Jon Hulcher was “hooked” on fishing. As soon as he could walk there was a fishing rod in his hands. He and his twin brother would go fishing with their Dad and Grandpa as much as possible. They caught anything from Trout in the mountains, to Largemouth Bass and Bream in the Piedmont where Jon grew up. His family would take multiple trips each year to the North Carolina Coast to fish. They mainly visited the Outer Banks and the Crystal Coast beaches.

What Drives Us

The Addiction

He picked up fly fishing from a 5th grade teacher that used to talk about his summer trips to Yellowstone to go trout fishing. In middle school Jon began learning to tie flies and build fishing rods with his mentor and friend Rusty Berrier.Everything he thought about was fishing related. His passion for trout fishing drove Jon to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. There, he fished before and after just about every class. During the summer months Jon Guided fly fishing in Northern Colorado as well as on some of the small mountain trout streams in Boone on the weekends or after classes. While at Appalachian State he met Will Jones of Bounty Hunter Guide service. Will introduced Jon to Harkers Island and the False Albacore fishery during their Fall semester break in 2010.

After finishing his B.S. degree in Sustainable Development with a minor in Biology. Jon left North Carolina to chase a dream of being a fishing guide in Alaska; where he has been a guide on the Kenai River in pursuit of Trophy Rainbow trout and Salmon for 8 years. Jon obtained his USCG 6-pack Captains license in 2015 while working in Alaska. A short 2 years later, he upgraded to a USCG Masters Captains license.
